On Tour With Holly Miranda – Episode IV

I think it was just after St. Louis that I stopped keeping track of what day it was, when the ritual goes something like drive, load-in, set up, play, sell, break down, sleep, drive, repeat it doesn’t matter if it’s Sunday or Wednesday.

We drove from STL to Kansas City, passed the Brown vs. Board Of Education historic site, the infamous court case the ended segregation in city schools in Topeka and paved the way for the US civil rights movement. So that was cool. Then we hit western Kansas and every third billboard was scary, like WHERE WILL YOU SPEND ETERNITY? types of awesomeness.

Somewhere in the middle of it all, I got everyone in love with the song Empire Ants off the new Gorillaz album and the flatness seemed less flat at the two-minute mark of that song. So we kept playing it over and over again.

It was the night before Easter, we were in Kansas City and after the set was over we peeled off into little Chinese joint that was taken from the cells of the Chinese restaurant in A Christmas Story. The place was empty and there was duck on the menu.

Here is the tour vid.

YAY!

SOUNDTRACK: Los Angeles

I’ve never had to walk around Los Angeles before and suddenly I understand west coast hip hop. I haven’t been listening to it though, I’ve been listening to these fools.

Class Actress  is from Brooklyn and taps into my shameless affection for Erasure loving, melodic, electro pop. Fans of Chairlift, Sound of Arrows, Empire of The Sun will appreciate Careful What You Say.

Broken Bells, yeah, you’ve heard all about them. Brings back memories of Beck and The Dandy Warhols. Nice. James Mercer and DJ Dangermouse make a baby and take The High Road.

The new Gorillaz, what can I say? Damon Albarn is like a fine wine. This guy just keeps getting better, and he doesn’t give a fuck. I’m obsessed with Empire Ants.

Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros again, nothing you haven’t heard of but dude, that song Home? who knew Ima Robot? Who knew? This is seconds away from becoming an indie film anthem. Mark my words.

You know, soundtrack kind of sh*t.
